WHY SAUDI ARABIA BUILDING A LINEAR CITY?

 

Saudi Arabia is the country situated in Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia. It is the fifth largest country in Asia, the second largest in the Arab world, and the largest in western Asia. Riyadh city is a capital of Saudi Arabia with 27 millions of population Mohammed bin Salman was the crown prince of Saudi kingdom.

       Normally Oil wealth was mostly based on the Arab countries like Saudi, UAE, Iran, Iraq and Israel .Saudi is one of the richest countries in the world it is also second largest oil producer in the world. The GDP of the country is most depending on the oil and petroleum only. Oil well was founded in March 3, 1938 before that Saudi was poor countries with the help oil producing Saudi become the 7 the largest economy county based on GDP. Even though the oil was a one of the non renewable energy sources and it  also known as wasting Assets it should diminishes whenever we extracting the oil from the earth. Stanford University has proved after 2050 there will be the oil resources will occurred on the earth. Whenever Saudi and another Arab countries facing lower price for oil world market it has affecting a GDP of Arab countries, but some Arab countries economy was not fully dependent on the oil production but Saudi economy is different it was fully dependent on the oil and petroleum production whenever they facing a lower price for oil they were facing the economic crisis. After that Saudi government has thinking that what happen when oil sources of our country diminishes. For that reasons Saudi crown prince Mohammad Bin Salman has planned to build a linear city in a straight line for covering more than 175 km distance coverage. This vision 2030 was initiative of Saudi Arabia was announced in April 2016 and it was name as NEOM its stand for “New Future”.

Why Saudi Arabia built a linear city? 

            Saudi government has invested more than 500 billion dollar on this project it was initiated on 2016 till onwards they built two airports and one luxuries resort. A NEOM is project was a being started in province of Tabuk on northwest of the kingdom along with gulf of aqaba and the red sea with total area of around 26,500 sq.km and in the end of another side the place called EL Sheikh which was belong to the Egyptian government it was already famous for tourism with famous resorts. This project was covered to build a bridge between the Egypt and Saudi through Arabian Sea along with Israel.

 

 Saudi has aims to complete the first section of NEOM by 2025. For facing those cost Saudi has announced to set up a closed joint stock company called NEOM for receiving investment from various countries and public investment fund for develop economic zone.

This linear city was planned to set up in three layer First layer called pedestrian ,second layer is name as service and third layer called spine layers. The first pedestrian layer was consists of full of natural resources like tree which was used to reduced the pollution on earth by absorbing  carbon . And there was no road for travelling. The second layer was used for trading purposes like shops purchasing products and sells. The third layer called spine it was used for transporting purposes like hi- tech and fastest train it will cover the entire linear city of 175 km within 40 minutes. And also there were many other facilities like full Wi-Fi, and full control of AI system. The energy of the city was fully produced by only renewable energy like solar power. For protecting environment only E Vehicles are allowed and also suggesting people to use only bicycle for ride restricted for using bike or other petroleum using vehicles. Now the Saudi government estimated that around 10 lakhs peoples can live in this city.  On the way 170 km straight line with mountain is also designed which are used tourised transport for tourisms. The LINEAR city project will creates 380000 new jobs, economic diversification and contribute. All of them have a doubt regarding how to travel this place? Saudi is the centre of world for that reasons there was a two airport for travelling within 8 hours from any place of the world to this linear city called NEOM. We have to wait and see whether this project will succeed or not.
